This is the chair that was designed by Stuart Scott in collaboration with Broseley!
John Thursfield, Broseley’s Managing Director, was searching for a designer who would understand the ’nuts and bolts’ of construction and translate the concept of an architectural building into a powerful and sublime piece of craftsmanship.
The Constructor, as it is named, is a carefully designed, ergonomically thoughtful and supremely comfortable chair. It works whether you sit up, slouch or perch! Handcrafted, signed and numbered, it is made to the highest specifications and looks good from every angle.
Stuart Scott spent months on the project. “It was the opportunity of creating a new piece that involved several specialist skills from precision engineering to saddle work that excited me”.
Shown here in dark stained walnut, hand selected and sourced from local mills, it has been waxed and hand burnished. The frame is constructed and finished by hand using solid timber sections, the leatherwork is made by a master saddler and the solid brass fixings are locally made in Stuart’s beautiful Wiltshire workshops.
Stuart Scott is best known for his beautiful collections of chairs and sofas, tables and occasional pieces. He utilised an array of materials, techniques and crafts, many of which date back hundreds of years. A self confessed perfectionist, he is inspired by the clarity and functionality of classic modernism, the exuberant flowing lines of Art Deco and the integrity of natural materials. The workshops offer wide variations of finishes and have invented their own too.
